At a thousand years old, she defies the age norms we often encounter in fantasy novels, adding a unique twist to her character. Her desperation to save her sister leaves her chained to Kaden having to do his bidding, even if it means securing an ancient relic from the very creatures that hunt her. This initial premise sets the tone for a story filled with moral ambiguity and tough choices.
One of the aspects that I loved was the morally grey nature of Diana’s main character. Dianna’s complex, feisty personality and her willingness to work with monsters make her a compelling and relatable protagonist. It’s refreshing to see a character who is unapologetically not good or evil but somewhere in between, navigating a world that isn’t always black and white.
