How To Get The Most Out Of Your Toronto Zoo Trip!
So you’re planning a trip to the Zoo? You might be panicking? How are you going to map this out? How are you going to keep the kids from melting down? Where will you start? What do you need?
Well, I’ve got you covered! For the most part…
We recently went to the Toronto Zoo on a family day trip and it was awesome! We all had a blast – especially Noah, he loved seeing all the animals for the first time. His favourites were the giraffe, crocodile, and monkeys.
Here are a few pointers for your day trip to the Toronto Zoo. These are just some of the things that seriously helped keep our sanity at the Zoo.
What Should You Bring to the Toronto Zoo?
- Lots of snacks
- Easy to pack lunch
- Water
- Bathing suits and towels
- Hand sanitizer
- Camera
- Money ( for the extras like rides )
- Sunscreen
- Umbrella
- Stroller
- Baby carrier
What to Pack in the Diaper Bag?
- Tonnes of baby wipes!!!!!
- Extra diapers
- Water diapers
- Change of clothes
- Baby snacks
- One or two toys ( preferably ones you can attach to the stroller with links )
What to Wear to the Toronto Zoo?
- Comfortable shoes!!!!!!!
- Hat
- Bathing suit ( under clothes )
- Weather appropriate clothes (ex. shorts in the summer, pants in the fall)
- Sunscreen
When You are There!
- Figure out what animals you want to see and map out the best course to see them all.
- Plan if you want to meet the Zoo Keeper. If so, figure out the times each one is where and map out your day accordingly. I highly recommend seeing the Lion Zoo Keeper.
- Hit the splash pad before it closes. Best time would be after lunch to help cool the kids off and make the second half of the day easier.
- Go over the Toronto Zoo map and see if there are any other attractions you would like to do and fit them in accordingly so you don’t miss out!
- See what animals you can feed and WHEN you can feed them. See if they fit into your day’s schedule.
- I DON’T recommend seeing the Canadian animals especially if you’re from Canada! They are at the bottom of a seriously long, steep hill. There is even a sign that says not recommended for strollers or wheelchairs ( we took that as a challenge and accepted ). It’ll tire you out for the rest of the day!
When To Go?
Late spring or early fall would be the best time to go. The animals are more active because it’s not as hot. The kids also won’t be as cranky since, they too, won’t be as hot.
Early morning! Try and get there for when they open. The Toronto Zoo is a full day so the sooner you get there the more you can see! It’s also better to get some of the Zoo done before it’s blazing hot outside!
What Attractions Do They Have at The Toronto Zoo?
There are 4 Rides:
- Gorilla Climb Ropes Course
- Zoomobile
- Conservation Carousel
- Tundra Air Ride
There is also “Splash Island” – a two-acre splash pad for the kids.
Fun Facts:
- The Toronto Zoo has over 5,000 Animals with over 450 different species
- The Toronto Zoo is over 710 Acres
- The Toronto Zoo is one of the worlds largest zoos
- There are over 10km of walking trails at the Toronto Zoo
I hope our family Zoo trip helped plan and make your trip a little easier! We would love to hear how your Zoo trip went! Leave us a comment about the best part of your Zoo trip! What were your favourite animals?
