7 Ultimate cake smash tips!

7 Ultimate cake smash tips.

When I started to plan my sons first birthday I really wanted to get a cake smash photo shoot done. So that’s what we did… but let me give you a few tips that might save you the headache we got.

Bring a change of clothes.

Bring an extra set of clothes for everyone who will be handling your bundle of joy. There was cake everywhere… my husband and son both needed a shower after. There was no way of handling my son and not getting cake everywhere.

Bring a Towel.

once your baby is on that ground with the cake in front of them its game over their going to be covered in cake! Cake in places you didn’t think the cake could get. You’ll want a towel for when you pick them up and to clean them up. Baby wipes didn’t work you need a towel for sure!

Nap time before.

For the best photos, you’ll want a happy baby. Try and schedule the cake smash shoot right after nap time where your baby will be at his/her happiest. If it’s after nap time then you could end up with a cranky baby who doesn’t want to play with the cake.

Eat before…but not too much.

You’ll want to feed your baby before the cake smash but not too much you still want them to eat the cake.

Work Fast.

You’ll want to work fast… like really fast. We were planning on getting a photo of Noah with the cake before he got into it but that didn’t happen… he’s fast. If you’re taking the photos you’ll have to shoot fast because believe me if you don’t you’ll miss so many potentially cute photos.

Minimal background.

A busy background will take away from your beautiful baby and you want the focus to be your baby and the cake. A simple background with a couple balloons and maybe a banner will do the trick.

Encourage.

Encouraging your little one to eat the cake will help and make them laugh. When they touch the cake clap your hands and tell them they are doing a good job this will get them excited and make for great photos.
